A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The ridge will relax from Wednesday, with winds then tending more northerly and freshening over far southern Queensland waters ahead of a coastal trough moving north along the New South Wales coast. The coastal trough and an associated fresh southerly wind change is likely to move through far southern waters early on Thursday morning, reaching southern Fraser Island waters by late afternoon. The trough is the expected to weaken on Thursday night with moderate to fresh north to northeasterly winds developing on Friday.
