Synoptic Situation
A monsoon trough lies through northern QLD near Cooktown and connects to a weak low in the Coral Sea. The trough will move north over the next couple of days. A high in the eastern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the Queensland central coast. The ridge will strengthen on Friday as another high moves into the Tasman Sea.

Peninsula Waters, Torres Strait to Cooktown:
Wednesday until midnight: N/NW winds 10/15 knots, tending NW/SW near Cooktown. Seas to 1.2 metres outside the reef and to 0.7 metres inside the reef. Showers and isolated thunderstorms. Rain areas.
Thursday: NW winds 15/20 knots, tending NW/SW 10/15 knots near Cooktown. Seas to 1.7 metres outside the reef and to 1.2 metres inside the reef. Showers and isolated thunderstorms. Rain areas.
Friday: NW/W winds 15/20 knots, north of Cape Melville, reaching 20/25 knots near Torres Strait. Winds tending SW/SE 10/15 knots south of Cape Melville.
Saturday: NW/W winds 15/20 knots north of Cape Melville, easing to 10/15 knots during the day. Winds tending SE/SW 10/15 knots south of Cape Melville.
