Weather Situation

A trough is moving through southern waters. A surface low is expected to develop off the northern New South Wales coast on Friday before moving to the east-northeast, increasing the winds and swell over southern Queensland waters.

Wind gusts can be 40 percent stronger than the averages given

here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height

Fraser Island Waters, Sandy Cape to Double Island Point:

Thursday until midnight: Winds: W to SW 15 to 20 knots. Seas: 1.7 metres. Swell: Less than 1.5 metres. Early light rain, then isolated showers.

Friday: Winds: W to SW 15 to 20 knots, increasing to 20 to 25 knots during the afternoon. Seas: 1.7 to 2.2 metres. Swell: Less than 1.5 metres. Isolated showers.

Saturday: Winds: S to SW 20 to 25 knots, increasing to SW to SE 25 to 30 knots from the south during the morning. Winds possibly reaching 30 to 35 knots at times during the afternoon.

Hervey Bay Waters:

Thursday until midnight: Winds: W to SW 15 to 20 knots. Seas: 1.5 metres. Early light rain, then isolated showers.

Friday: Winds: W to SW 10 to 15 knots, increasing to 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon. Seas: 1 to 1.5 metres.

Saturday: Winds: S to SW 15 to 20 knots, increasing to SW to SE 20 to 25 knots during the afternoon and reaching 25 to 30 knots at times.
