PART 1 WARNINGS Gale warning issued by Brisbane at 111857UTC for the area bounded by 20S 148.5E to 17S 160E to 28S 160E to 28S 153.5E to 25S 153.5E to 20S 148E. Gale warning issued by Nadi at 112015UTC for area within 150NM miles of centre of tropical low in sectors from northwest through east to southwest and within 60NM of centre elsewhere.

PART 2 SITUATION At 111800UTC. Monsoon trough near 10S142E to 10S160E to tropical low [1002 hPa] 14.7S 166E. The tropical low is expected to deepen on Friday and move slowly westwards. High [1040 hPa] 43S 140E with a strong ridge along the east Australian coast.

PART 3 FORECAST Brisbane warning area. S/SE winds 25/33 knots, increasing to 30/40 knots from the south. High seas with a moderate S/SE swell. Squally showers. Nadi warning area. Clockwise winds 25/30 knots increasing to 35 knots in the next 12 to 18 hours. High seas with moderate confused swell. Rain areas and scattered thunderstorms. North of monsoon trough and east of 160E. NW/W 15/25 knots with moderate to rough seas increasing to 25/33 knots south of 5S and east of 165E with rough to very rough seas. A low to moderate NE swell. Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain areas south of 7S. Remainder north of monsoon trough. NW/SW 10/20 knots with slight to moderate seas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms. South of monsoon trough, north of 14S. S/SE winds 10/20 knots with slight to moderate seas, increasing to 25/33 knots and rough seas east of 160E. Low to moderate SE swell. Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms. Rain areas east of 158E. Remainder south of monsoon trough. SE winds 20/33 knots most waters with rough to very rough seas. Moderate S/SE swells. Squally showers. Rain areas north of 20S, east of 160E.
