Weather Situation

A high in the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge through Queensland. The high will strengthen as it moves slowly to the east to northeast over the next few days, strengthening the winds along the Queensland east coast.

North Tropical Waters, Cooktown to Cardwell:

A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters north of Cairns for Saturday.

Friday until midnight: Winds: South to southeasterly 20 to 25 knots. Seas: 2.2 metres outside the reef, and 1.5 metres inside the reef. Swell: Less than 1 metre. Isolated showers.

Saturday: Winds: South to southeasterly 25 to 30 knots north of Cairns, 20 to 25 knots south of Cairns. Seas: 2.2 to 3 metres outside the reef, and 1.7 to 2.2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 1.5 metres outside the reef. Isolated showers.

Sunday: Winds: Southeasterly 25 to 30 knots.

Monday: Winds: Southeasterly 25 to 30 knots.
