Synoptic Situation
A weak trough lies through the Torres Strait. A large high in the Great Australian Bight extends a strengthening ridge over the east Queensland coast.
Warnings
A wind warning is current for waters between Cooktown and St Lawrence.
North Tropical Waters, Cooktown to Cardwell:
A strong wind warning is current. Thursday until midnight: Wind: SE 20/25 knots, increasing to 25/30 knots during the evening. Sea: rising to 3 metres during the afternoon and 1.8 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 1.5 metres outside the reef. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Friday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots. Sea: 3 metres outside the reef and 2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 2 metres. Squally showers.
Saturday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots, increasing to 30/35 knots south of Cairns during the day.
Sunday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots.
