Synoptic Situation
A weak trough lies over northern Peninsula waters. A large high to the west of Tasmania will move slowly into the Tasman Sea over the next few days, maintaining a strong ridge over the east Queensland coast.

Warnings
A wind warning is current for waters between Cooktown and St Lawrence.

North Tropical Waters, Cooktown to Cardwell:
A strong wind warning is current.
Friday until midnight: Wind: S/SE 25/30 knots. Lighter winds inshore early morning south of Cairns. Sea: 3 metres outside the reef and 2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 2 metres. Scattered squally showers.
Saturday: Wind: SE 25/30 knots, increasing to 30/35 knots south of Cairns during the day. Lighter winds inshore early morning south of Cairns. Sea: 3 metres outside the reef, rising to 3.5 metres south of Cairns during the day, 2 metres inside the reef. Swell: SE 2 to 2.5 metres outside the reef. Scattered squally showers.
Sunday: Wind: SE 25/33 knots.
