Southeast Gulf, South of Cape Keer-Weer:

A Strong Wind Warning is current.

Wednesday until midnight: Winds: Southeasterly 20 to 25 knots, reaching 25 to 30 knots at times during the morning. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres, reaching up to 2.7 metres during the morning. Swell: Less than 1.5 metres.

Thursday: Winds: South to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching 20 to 25 knots at times during the morning. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres. Swell: Less than 1.5 metres. Patchy light rain.

Friday: Winds: South to southeasterly 15 to 20 knots.

A high pressure system near Tasmania extends a ridge into Queensland. The high will move slowly east over the next few days while slowly weakening.

North Tropical Waters, Cooktown to Cardwell:

Wednesday until midnight: Winds: Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, although winds decreasing to 10 to 15 knots to the south of Cairns late in the day. Seas: to 1.2 metres inside the reef and 1.7 metres outside the reef. Swell: Less than 1.5 metres.

Thursday: Winds: Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots south of Cairns. North of Cairns, Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots. Seas: to 1.2 metres inside the reef and 1.7 metres outside the reef. Swell: Less than 1.5 metres.

Friday: Winds: Southeasterly 10 to 15 knots south of Cairns. North of Cairns, Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching 20 to 25 knots at times in the far north at night.

Synoptic Situation
A slow moving complex low pressure system lies over the eastern Tasman Sea while a high pressure ridge pushes into western New South Wales. The ridge will continue moving eastwards over the next couple of days to be over the western Tasman Sea by Friday morning.

Wednesday: Strong wind warning for Wednesday for Byron Coastal Waters
Thursday: Winds: Southerly 20 to 25 knots, decreasing to 10 to 15 knots in the late evening. Seas: 1.5 to 2 metres, decreasing below 1.5 metres around midday. Swell: Southerly 2.5 to 3 metres. Caution: Large swells breaking dangerously close inshore in the morning.
Friday: Winds: Southerly 10 to 15 knots becoming variable about 10 knots during the morning. Seas: Up to 1 metre. Swell: Southeasterly 2 to 3 metres. Caution: Large swells breaking dangerously close inshore.
